Exchange of vows

Posted by Heather B on July 31st, 2005

River emailed me this image from his cell phone this evening. I got a few blow-by-blow pictures prior to this, of all the family members gussied up for Noah and Shaida’s wedding. They’ve all been nervous, excited and eager, I believe. Nice to see that it really did happen. Congrats guys!

Dad I, 1991

Posted by Heather B on July 30th, 2005

My father sat in a yellow inflatable life raft that hovered 300 feet above the open sea. Paddles stuck out and down on either side, like the ends of an oversized, straddling wishbone. He was untroubled. I was with him in the boat, listening to him tell long stories about his childhood and events in […]

Informal polling

The last couple of weeks have brought me the kind of stress that I can’t write about on the fly. It would make me too vulnerable somehow. A couple of decisions have been in the balance for me.
The first thing isn’t so much a decision but it relates to Paolo having Lyme disease. Will he […]

Taking shelter

Posted by Heather B on July 22nd, 2005

This week and last I’ve been attempting to host a brief session of some children’s classes in my neighborhood. On a recent day we scrapped original plans and decided to get together at Bass Pond instead, because it was swelteringly hot, suffocatingly humid, and my kid with Lyme disease is happy only when either swimming […]

Luck

Today’s Paolo’s birthday. He turns six. We have to visit the doctor to follow up on the Lyme. It’s been pretty miserable, but he’s a trooper. We were going to celebrate with a party tonight, but he asked to scale it back. Now it’s just Gramps coming. At least we’ll be able to swim at […]

Castle nears completion

The insanity taking place at my mom and stepdad’s waterfront home is nearly finished. Or should I say, the insanity is nearly ready to begin.

Stuff retrieval

Posted by Heather B on July 15th, 2005

After playing phone tag with a few people, and driving here and there in an attempt to fetch some things, I have logged the following:
1. Yesterday, 5:34 pm, retrieved Paolo’s Neopet pet from a friend. Resident of house where pet was left behind got my phone message and offered to bring it by, since she […]

The Anti-Alpha Mom

Posted by Heather B on July 15th, 2005

I’m glad that my way of life differs from this profile of the Alpha Mom. I definitely don’t “have it all” and I’m content with what I have. And I am in a position to keep striving. I also feel that I have very little control. The Alpha Mom approach seems to be a deep […]

Ye Olde Lyme

Posted by Heather B on July 14th, 2005

The bacteria that cause Lyme disease are helical. Here you can see them at 400x. The disease was apparently first discovered in children around Lyme, Connecticut, who were showing symptoms of arthritis.

In children, such as my son Paolo, Lyme can manifest in a variety of symptoms depending on how long it’s had to set in. […]

Tending the tender

Posted by Heather B on July 13th, 2005

There are six kittens in my upstairs bathroom who are clamoring to get out. They are “of age” and I can’t wait to find homes for them. The ones who don’t have homes are going to have to go to the local shelter. I cannot take them in. Since April we’ve had a growing number […]
