Last night, my cousin Josh Grier, frontman for Tapes ‘n Tapes, was on the David Letterman Show. There’s a nice little upload on YouTube of folks at the Minneapolis Hexagon Bar watching the show, and singing along with “Insistor.” The band has also released a video for “Insistor,” clearly their first single from The Loon. Go dudes.
Being in New York City the same time as Josh, I naturally attempted to connect, but he did not return my call. I imagined him surrounded by paparazzi. Even his voice mail was a little bit hostile to me, allowing only about seven seconds of time to relay my message about how I could be reached.
I was in the city to participate in my husband’s own propulsion into a certain verison of graphic designer fame, still heavily under wraps. We spent an evening at a fun dinner party with investors and colleagues and spouses. In a rare bout of fashion something-or-other, I wore heels, but my hair was decidedly frizzy. Nobody cared, and I was happy.
It was nice to look over the East River at Manhattan from my glitzy rooftop garden terrace party thingie and think about Josh and his band getting together over there somewhere, maybe with sweaty palms, powdering their noses and rehearsing “Insistor” for the billionth time.
